Bio:  I have traveled to Asia, Europe, Central America and North America to photo-document various business projects, but I never fail to take time to photo other things of interest. My photos fall into two categories: beautiful, or interesting. Sometimes, of course, photos fit both categories at the same time.

I live on a small farm south of Houston, Texas. One of the boundaries for the farm is Chocolate Bayou, which feeds directly into Galveston West Bay and then the Gulf of Mexico. In this area, the opportunities for wildlife and nature photography are plentiful; I carry my camera gear with me most of the time. I have also spent time in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, British Columbia, Arizona, California, Wisconsin, and other places too numerous to mention. Again, the photo ops are always there if you are willing to look for them and take the time to shoot the picture. At home on the bayou, flowers and birds are the most plentiful subjects, and there is always something new if you are willing to slow down and look. Snakes, spiders and alligators are among my favorite subjects, along with bees, butterflies, dragonflies and the like. Don’t be surprised to see coyotes, armadillos, or bobcats.

ABOUT THE PROJECT: Texas Quail Rigs

The scope of a vanishing tradition and culture of quail hunting in Texas reaches far beyond the art of photography. Lokey traveled throughout Texas’s quail country to photograph and study the trucks represented in his book Texas Quail Rigs which will be released in March 2014. Each one of the 120 plus rigs is different, and reflects the personality of its owner and builder. His project was an opportunity to ensure a place in history for a tradition that has gone on for decades and is ever changing as the quail population and hunters grow less each year. The photographs are as much a tribute to the unique rigs and their owners as it is to an era of tradition. Lokey’s photographs should be seen as a documentation of history as much as art.

Artist Bio:  I let the materials and tools guide me in the creation of my art. The copper plates, the inks, the brayers, presses and papers, the camera lenses and the light of an afternoon sky: all have lessons to teach about how to capture the images I perceive. I have been fortunate to travel around the world and experience its grandeur, from the Great Wall of China to the Duomo in Florence, from the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower in Paris to the Old City in Jerusalem. Photography taught me how to frame what I have seen. Printmaking lets me bring impressions to life in ways that convey their essence. Art is my way of expressing my passion for the adventure.

Artist Bio

Texas based Norwegian artist Marit Nordvik is originally a graphic designer, and worked as such for many years in Norway. Ten years ago, she moved to Singapore and it was difficult to continue with her Norwegian customers because of the time difference. However, she earned a bachelor of art there, as well as doing jewelry design. In 2012 she moved to Houston, and production in Thailand became difficult. A year later she started to try out her husband’s Nikon 300D, and found this both amusing and challenging. She took Photo classes, to learn how the gear worked, but still, there have been a lot of experiments before she found her own style. Now she is taking whatever she knows as a graphic designer, in to a whole new level through the camera lens….sometimes with a little bit of help by Photoshop.  This is her first exhibition, by the way.

In addition, as the curious person she is, she also began to paint acrylic and watercolor three years ago, sometimes combining a mix of medias, but that is for another show……

Artist Bio

Jeff Stark was born in Houston and grew up out in Sugar Land. His dad is an artist who has been painting most of his life so his love for art and design started at a young age. His first dream was to become an architect, but that path guided him towards a degree in graphic design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Houston. Early on in his career, Jeff became the Art Director of Enron’s in-house agency before its collapse. From that experience, he co-founded Digital Function, a web design & development firm where he has been the Design Director for close to 15 years and is heavily involved in the Houston design & tech community. His passion for photography started with capturing and documenting his travels back in 2009 on a trip to Italy. As an artist his photography provides the audience with a unique view into the environments, spaces, and the landscapes that surround him. Recently, he and his father have been collaborating on mix media projects and lives his Houston with his wife Trang.

Diverse, technical and showing a geeky point of view – those are Don’s Photographs.

Don is a retired engineer who has been shooting photographs since he won a ‘brownie camera’ when he was 11 years old.  The advent of digital SLR cameras has freed him to explore and chase the excellent image.

Don has been an art groupie since he married Kathy Golden, an artist who paints in oils.  Don has received no formal training in photography, but is self-taught and a product of the school of trial and error.
